Zoe Lewis With Kate Wolf

  #
Just a quick heads up...   We want to remind you that we have Zoe here in less than 2 weeks and we still have seats left.  We're sure that you're just putting the check in the mail this week, right?   Of all the artists we've had through, there is not another artist who puts as much of herself in to the show.   You will NOT be disappointed by the show.

If you have yet to join us, like my friend down at the Bennett campaign office, take a chance!

Zoe on Saturday

  #
There are literally only 5 seats still available for Saturday's concert.

We have a couple of checks in hand for TESSA, but we hope to see more of you here before the concert to mingle with Zoe & Kate.  It's not too late to sign up for the gathering.  You can bring a check with you for TESSA, but please call Marc & I to let us know you're coming so we can accurately prepare food & drink.   It's Domestic Violence Awareness Month - and you will get a rare glimpse into the middle of the problem AND the solution Saturday night here...  Our survivor is one amazing person.

Zoe & Kate in October

  #

If any of you were up in Lyons, then you got a chance to see Zoe just as we did last month.  Kate Wolf (the bass player) will be joining Zoe here and we’re REALLY looking forward to it.  It’s been too long since Zoe last graced our stage and Folks Fest reminded me what a versatile, entertaining and talented musician she is.   It will be another incredible evening...

Zoe Lewis & Kate Wolf in October

  #
For those of you headed to Lyons, you'll have a chance to see Zoe on the main stage there.   (But the sound is MUCH better here!!!) I talked her last week to let her know how excited we are about her October show and I learned that she’s coming through with our old friend (and Rubber Band member) Kate Wolf.  We’re going to get 2 incredible artists for the price of one.   Checks have been rolling through for this one, so remember to get one in the mail soon for this Saturday in October.   If you're still on the fence, you can listen to her music here...

Zoe In October

  #
For you long time house concert goers - Zoe Lewis needs no introduction.   On the other hand, we want you newcomers to be as excited about our October concert as we are.   The most satisfying description of her we have ever heard is: "Part Huck Finn & Part Julie Andrews".  Zoe is one of our favorite artists on both a personal & musical scale.  Her "band in a body" will amaze you.  You can check out her music and other press on her here.  Old stories we've done on here can be found here

Where Julie Andrews & Huck Finn Meet

  #

What better endorsement could you have than Christine Lavin saying she has slipped 6 of Zoe's songs into her national radio program "Slipped Discs"?  (XM asks her only to include 2 per artist - so this is a big deal.)  The WHOLE Rubber Band is going to be here with Zoe - this is going to be a huge treat because each of the artists is so talented on her own that the group is incredible.  We're going to limit seating because of the size of the band.  Links here to her website,  other stories & her music clips.

If you loved Christine - you will NOT be disappointed by Zoe - only by missing her.  Remember, Friday, October 21st, and get your checks moving this way, we still have seats left.

Zoe! Need we say more?

  #
The best description I've ever heard of Zoe is "part Huck Finn, part Julie Andrews".   You already know what we mean if you caught her show with Brian Joseph last year.

We're really excited about Zoe and her Rubber Band's first concert here, because we expect an even higher energy show when Zoe brings along her pals.  Zoe brings not only a guitar with her - but a whole band within herself.  As for her cohorts, we've know Kate Wolfe for years and she's another extremely accomplished musician as well.  We're sure that the others are equally talented.  This is the first concert where we're not really sure that the house can contain all the energy or the music.  Don't miss this amazing evening...  If you're still on the fence, check out her music here.

She's Ba-a-ck

  #

Zoe is coming back!  This time she's bringing along her infamous "Rubber Band".  This is a group of musicians you don't want to miss.  I would try to describe the show, but you really never know what's going to happen when this talented bunch takes the stage.   We love this group...

From CDbaby:

"ZOE LEWIS is a band in a body! She plays jazz, jump jive, latin grooves, swing, international folk, funk originals on anything from the piano to the spoons! Originally from England she now resides in Provincetown, Cape Cod.

She has been winning songwriting competitions at festivals all over the U.S:
2003 COLORADO ROCKY MOUNTAIN TROUBADOUR WINNER
2002 KERRVILLE, TEXAS FESTIVAL NEW FOLK WINNER
2001 FALCONRIDGE FESTIVAL AUDIENCE CHOICE, NY

She's toured all over the world picking up musical influences along the way, she plays a mean jazz piano, her music's upbeat and amusing and perfect for all ages yet sets listeners deliciously off balance with her quirky spin on things sneaking in simple, potent mesages leaving audiences worn out and inspired."

Zoe's latest CD here has some great tunes on it.  I wish you could play Snow White - we hear it every week here from my daughter's IPOD.

Don't Discount Ms. Zoe!

  #

Brian is the known commodity here - but we predict that Zoe will be the surprise hit of the evening.  Zoe's energy is infectious.  I remember standing talking to her one moment in a Seattle park and then staring at her hanging upside down in a tree the next.  Her voice is most likely her most phenomenal asset:  crystalline clear and delivered effortlessly.  Marc & I are going up to Lyons this Sunday just to see her on the main stage there.  She & Brian were co-winners of the RMFF songwriting competition last year - so don't despair if you can't make it over to Lyons.  Friends House Concerts is MUCH closer and the parking isn't such a problem.  Check out Zoe's CDs here and join us in August.  She released her latest CD this month - so those who have heard her will get a slug of new music as well.

You'll thank us at the end of the evening...  Join us for the final concert of the summer - and look forward to school starting next week!

NEWSFLASH

  #

Loosely described as Lyons times 10, the Telluride Troubadour Competition took place last month at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.  GUESS WHO WON?!?!?  Brian Joseph - half our August concert.  Brian said the prize was a magnificent (a custom-made Shanti guitar by master luthier Michael Hornick), but the experience of playing in front of 10,000 fans, sandwiched between Ani di Franco and Bela Fleck was even better.

So - you get to see Brian in a much smaller, intimate venue here:  send your money in to guarantee a seat to see Brian & Zoe Lewis here on Polaris in August.

Friends House Concerts is very excited about Zoe's visit here just after the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival.  Her personality is infectious, her energy positive and her voice like butter.  You won't be able to leave the house that evening without picking up at least one of her CDs.

A Coup For Folk Festival Fans

  #
We REALLY wanted to take July & August off, but fans of the Lyons Folk Festival will be happy to know that we're not going to do that.  After the festival this year, you can continue to bask in the afterglow of great folk music here at Friends House Concerts.  We have secured the co-winners of the festival's 2003 songwriting contest for a joint gig here in August.

Brian Joseph will be making his third appearance here and probably needs no introduction to y'all.  Even though he's a friend, I'm still amazed at the connection that he forms almost immediately with audiences.  For those of you new to this Los Angeles based modern troubadour, check him out on his website here.  Just last week someone was telling me that they can't get that fish taco song aka "We're gonna laugh" out of their head...

Zoe Lewis is new to Friends House Concerts, but we met here at an extended wedding weekend several years ago.  Picture singing and music around a bonfire until the wee hours of the morning with Ani deFranco, the Wolf sisters, Erika, Catie Curtis & Zoe.  Let me tell you - Zoe has more personality than can be contained in one person.  CD Baby has this to say about her: "Practically a one-woman band, an energetic, edgy, multi-instrumentalist who has traveled the globe and picked up a vast mixture of musical influences: a touch of Ireland in her tin whistling; a little New Orleans in her piano playing; even hints of Latin America in many of her tunes. A troubadour, a Vaudevillian, a storyteller and an inspired performer."  They are dead on.  The range of her musical styles is vast, but it's her voice that really gets me.  Check Zoe out on this page with MP3s on it.
