IMPORTANT: Chris Smither Concert

  #

Dear Fans,

Less than 3 weeks until Chris returns.  We're concerned that there are some misunderstandings about Chris Smither tickets.   If you had seats for the first concert, you don't automatically have seats for the Friday, September 5th show.   To hold your seat, you should have sent in a new check earlier.   Several people mentioned recently that they had tickets, when they really didn't.

Please check the concert list here to confirm your seats if you think that you have tickets.  If your name is NOT on the list and you think it should be, please call immediately.  We do still have some seats available, so please don't panic, but call 385-0031 as soon as possible.

Travl'n Blues

Chris Smither returns in April.   There are only a handful of tickets left...  Those of you who were here last time need no urging to get your money in for this concert.   We really haven't said much about the concert, but Chris has a new album since his last visit and one if the tracks was named in Rolling Stone's top 100 songs of the year:  Origin of the Species.   His song crafting skills are legendary and his playing one of a kind.   Something about those southern bluesmen just makes me go weak at the knees...

This concert will sell out - get your check in and don't miss it!

Return of our first sell out

  #
In April we will see a return of our first sold out concert:  Chris Smither.   Raised in Louisiana, steeped in the traditions of the old bluesmen, country music & rock 'n roll, Chris' concert is sure to sell out again.  His style is one of kind - we even have to mic his feet... I guar-on-tee that you won't be disappointed.   It's taken quite some time to get him back here, but we're glad to see that he'll grace our stage.   Definitely will be one of the best of 2008....

Fall 2003 - SOLD OUT Chris Smither Concert

  #

Well... PLEASE don't say that I did not warn you.  We sold out the Friday night Chris Smither show three weeks in advance.    BUT.... I talked to Chris' booking agency and he agreed to stay for a Saturday matinee - 12 noon here at the house.  I suspect that there are checks in the mail that we did not know were coming so we may not have space for these folks at Friday's concert.   These people will get first priority for the Saturday concert.  I already have 10 seats reserved / checks in the mail for Saturday specifically.

There is still a fair amount of press that will hit the general public before the show so we expect sales from that as well.  I have two requests of you - our loyal house concert fans:

  1. 1)  If you have have tickets for the Friday night but would prefer a Saturday noon concert (probably smaller/more intimate than the Friday night) let me know and we will lighten the load for Friday and put you on Saturday's confirmed list.  I'm think that this might work better for the out of towners who are headed in to see Chris.

2)  If you are interested in the Saturday show - please contact us via phone or email immediately AND get your checks into the PO Box.  I want to give our people priority over the general public - but we can only do that for the next week or so.  This is truly a show that you don't want to miss and a rare opportunity in that Chris agreed to a second show for us.

Check out his music at www.chrissmither.com and come join us for the best concert of the year...

Chris Smither on National Public Radio THIS MORNING

  #

Chris Smither performs in NPR's Studio 4A in Washington, D.C. HEY!!!  Did you hear the extended interview with Chris (the only reason I do house concerts) Smither on KRCC's Morning Edition this morning?!  No... well then just check this out - Bob Edwards & Chris Smither.  Man - what timing!  And how lucky y'all are to have him right here (them that has tickets that is) up close and personal in three weeks.  Hey... did you hear Chris say that his biggest thrill is landing in a town and having 100 people out in the audience that know all his songs?  Start memorizing those lyrics!

Full Steam Ahead

  #

For those subscribers of Acoustic Guitar Magazine - you already know that headline from their November issue:  "Small Revelations - Bluesy songwriter Chris Smither goes full steam ahead on Train Home. By Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers".  HA - how is that for timing?!  We only have about 20 seats left for the Chris Smither show in three weeks.  You HAVE to get your checks into us ASAP if you want a seat for the concert.  This will be a great way to end the year up here at Friends House Concerts.  Check out our website if you want to hear some of Chris' or Peter Mulvey's music.  Chris' fans are calling from his website schedule - don't get shut out...

Don't Be Left Out

  #

My friends - WHAT are you waiting for?!  We're over half sold out on the Chris Smither concert.  NO WHINING allowed if I have to say no.  In fact - I think that I'm going to have to quit answering the phone in November...  Get your checks in to reserve a seat...  Peter Mulvey as an added bonus - what a great night

Check him out:  Crocodile Man on the lastest release, and High Heeled Sneakers for other work from the bluesman...  His website has all kinds of clips & reviews - but he's even better live.

Chris Smither's Music

  #

Hey you regulars - you're getting one upped by die hard Smither fans - they're sending in money for four and six tickets at a time.  Remember - the Village Voice, the New York Times and the Washington Post all sing this man's praises. Bluesman, songwriter & player extraordinaire.  There's so much to choose from...  Chris' latest includes a Dave Carter cover "Crocodile Man".  Listen to his AMAZING guitar work on "Down In The Flood".  A song written for his wife that makes you think that he can read YOUR thoughts "Happier Blue".  Finally take a listen to "High Heeled Sneaker" and tell me that you're NOT interested in this concert....  But get your checks in soon - we're limited on seating and already 1/3 sold out - cash in hand.   Check out his website for more songs...  www.chrissmither.com

'Nough Said...

  #

OK...maybe just one more bit of Chris' guitar to listen to...  Listen for the 'Nawlins roots in "No Love Today" and the tale of hard times in "The Devil's Real".  We have not seen Peter in concert, but his last album is inspiring.  I've been having trouble pulling up his sound clips but click here for his website.

Don't Get Shut Out

  #

You really will regret NOT getting your check in early for this show...

We settled on a November house concert date for the artist of whom the Village Voice had this to say:   "Chris Smither, whose grand voice, stomping foot, blues-drenched guitar, and abiding interest in the problem of evil packed more power than the bands of Tracy Chapman and John Martyn combined."  Read more about Chris and reviews from The New York Times, The Washington Post and the Associate Press here.   Check out his website for sound clips, etc...

Enough said - Chris is the reason that we ever started out on this house concert adventure.  His ticket prices are a bit higher than normal - but he's the real thing.  Don't get shut out of this concert - you will regret it.  Arrange for the babysitter early & get your reservations in.

The Blue Guitar is headed this way

  #

It is certain – we will host Chris Smither on either November 21 or 23.  (You probably don’t realize that this is the only reason that Whitney ever started hosting house concerts was to get Chris Smither to play at the house.  Having succeeded, will this be the end of the line for The Friends House Concerts?! Stay tuned in.)  We can’t even begin to list the glowing recommendations that Chris has garnered along the way, but the list includes such big names as Rolling Stone, AP and the Washington Post.   According to the Village Voice "Chris Smither, whose grand voice, stomping foot, blues-drenched guitar, and abiding interest in the problem of evil packed more power than the bands of Tracy Chapman and John Martyn combined."

Your best bet is to check out his website at:  www.chrissmither.com. Or better yet, run out and buy one of Whitney’s dessert island discs “Happier Blue” by the man.   Sentimental reasons make us want to have the concert at the house – but practicality may force us into an outside venue.  Details to follow.
